CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking a Correctional Sergeant to supervise Correctional Officers, oversee custody and welfare of incarcerated persons, and ensure daily staff accountability at Centinela State Prison in Imperial, CA. The role includes inspections, mail checks, procedures, training, and performance reporting.
Position is a 12 Month Limited Term Full Time in Imperial County with in-office telework and a salary range of $8,696.00–$10,935.00 J.
Job Description And Duties Under the general supervision of the Correctional Lieutenant, the Correctional Sergeant is the first level of supervision for Correctional Officers in the custody, discipline, and welfare of incarcerated persons on an assigned watch or in a major area; daily accountability of staff; makes inspection tours to see that Correctional Officers are alert and diligent in the performance of their duties; conveys to superiors complaints made by Correctional Officers and incarcerated persons ; takes, receives, and checks periodic counts of incarcerated persons ; directs the inspection of quarters of incarcerated persons for contraband, sanitary conditions, and orderliness; examines incoming and outgoing mail; develops procedures and posts orders; provides on-the-job training for Correctional Officer staff; promotes acceptable attitudes and behavior of incarcerated persons ; rates incarcerated persons on conduct and productivity; directs visits to incarcerated persons and makes arrangements for showing visitors about the facility; reports infractions of rules and regulations and irregular or suspicious occurrences and takes or recommends appropriate action; prevents escapes and injury by incarcerated persons to themselves and to property; searches for and recaptures escaped incarcerated persons ; receives, checks, and issues guns, ammunition, and other supplies and equipment; may participate as a leader in the group treatment program for incarcerated persons or parolees; prepares employee and performance reports; and keeps records and prepares reports. Complete or assist in the completion of Incident Reports (CDCR 837) to document any crimes or unusual occurrences within the institution (e.g., use of force, death of a person, major disturbance), using Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS), California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 15, Departmental/local Operating Procedures, etc., as needed. Become certified and act as a Hearing Officer for Administrative Rules Violation Reports (RVR) in order to adjudicate RVRs using California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 15, etc., as needed. Compliance with Departmental uniform and grooming standards in order to demonstrate a neat and professional appearance and represent the department.

This is a 12 month Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
