Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions seeks a psychologist to evaluate and diagnose inmates/detainees/residents for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders within a correctional setting.

You will coordinate mental health functions, supervise staff, provide psychotherapy or counseling, refer to psychiatrists, assess suicide risk, and document services in medical records.

This role requires a PhD/PsyD and state licensure; correctional experience is preferred; you must be at least 21.

Qualifications

• PhD or PsyD in Psychology from an accredited university.
• Current psychology license in the state where the facility is located.
• Two years of correctional work experience preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate mental health functions including supervising and training staff.
• Examine and treat detainees referred by nursing/professional staff to ensure proper care.
• Provide psychotherapy or counseling for psychological disorders or mental illness.
• Make appropriate referrals to a psychiatrist as necessary.
• Evaluate mental status to determine transfer/observation due to suicide risk.
• Document services provided and notes in patient medical records; train staff on risk factors.
