Job summary

The Department of Corrections – Clinical Services in Pierre, SD is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate psychiatric care in a correctional setting. The PMHNP will diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications for inmates and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team.

This is a full-time, 40-hour weekly position with salary range $114,318 to $130,000 per year, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in South Dakota
• Certified by ANCC or ANA as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
• Current and valid DEA licensure
• Ability to provide direct patient care to offenders
• Skilled in office-based procedures
• Ability to maintain professionalism in a complex environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to read and comprehend English
• Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
• Ability to create accessible documents and plain language content

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessment of patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide consults to medical providers as needed
• Establish diagnoses, order and interpret studies, perform and monitor treatments
• Prescribe and regulate medications per patient care needs
• Document health appraisal data to coordinate services
• Communicate findings to patients, physicians, and other providers in a timely manner
• Develop and reevaluate treatment plans for patients
• Refer patients when services are outside DOC Clinical Services scope
• Provide assessment, consultation and brief intervention for psychiatric issues
• Maintain documentation of patient encounters per policy and standards
• Maintain NP licensure per SD state law
• Adhere to patient confidentiality and HIPAA policies
• Perform other assigned tasks
