Job summary

DelDOT is seeking a Correctional Officer / Youth Rehab Food Service Specialist I to perform full‑performance cooking and supervise inmate food service workers, while enforcing safety, sanitation, and department rules in a Delaware correctional facility. The role requires a high school diploma, six months cooking experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work with youth.

Training and benefits are provided, with a starting base salary around $53,807 and opportunities for advancement

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Six months of experience in institutional or commercial cooking and baking.
• Knowledge of proper safety, storage and sanitation standards for food items.
• Knowledge of narrative report writing.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
• At least 19½ years of age.

Responsibilities

• Apply food service principles to food preparation while complying with safety standards.
• Instruct inmate/ youth food service workers in kitchen operations and equipment usage.
• Supervise inmates/youths in kitchen assignments and maintain positive working relations.
• Prepare and cook meals and maintain kitchen tools and equipment.
• Enforce rules and recipes, and ensure discipline, safety, and cleanliness.
