Job description

Provides security custody and control of inmates housed.

Maintains and reports inmate count and daily logs; prepares and submits miscellaneous reports.

Maintains surveillance and searches for contraband.

Inspects building for cleanliness and sanitation; requisitions and directs issuance of supplies, tools, and equipment; maintains inventory of equipment.

Ensures inmates receive prescribed medical and behavioral treatments.

Operates security devices such as gates, doors, weapons, and mechanical devices in a security setting.

Reports inmate complaints for appropriate action.

Serves as backup for dorm/building disputes requiring assistance and crisis intervention; reports to appropriate personnel.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • SCDC Minimum Requirements:

Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Tattoos: Must not be offensive, gang-related, or visibly on face/head; tattoos on neck evaluated case-by-case.
  • Cannot have been convicted of a crime with a maximum sentence of one year or more or a fine of $1,000.
  • Must pass a physical examination administered by SCDC.
