Overview
Correctional Officers II provide supervisory work involving the custody, treatment, and training of incarcerated individuals confined within a correctional facility. They supervise correctional staff and inmates in a correctional setting. Supervision and technical assistance are provided to lower-ranking officers in a unit or as part of their on-the-job training. Work is performed in accordance with standard operating procedures of the facility, under the supervision of a shift supervisor or a technical superior who assigns and reviews work through personal observation and reports.
Responsibilities include conducting transportation of medication from clinical facilities to the correctional facility, verifying correct medication and count, conducting searches and inventories of property, sharps, and other items as needed. They evaluate staff and inmate performance, monitor behavioral and performance trends, and may prepare written reports. They may investigate grievances, participate in disciplinary hearings, and assist in revising and implementing facility procedures and programs. Performs related duties as required.
Schedule
This position follows a 2-2-3 schedule: work two days, off two days, work three days, then off two days, repeating this cycle. This schedule provides regular rest periods, flexibility, and a 3-day weekend every other week. Due to post and shift bidding, the shift may vary based on seniority. Overtime is required to maintain safe staffing levels and is considered an essential function of the job.

Pay
As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 21 is $25.64 per hour.

Environmental Factors
