Job summary

The Colorado Department of Corrections is hiring a Correctional Officer I to maintain safety and security across its facilities. You will interact with inmates, enforce rules, and support reentry programs while following state policies and procedures.

Positions require completion of Basic Training, a clean background, and a willingness to work all shifts, including nights and weekends. This is a full-time, on-site role with opportunities to advance within a structured state system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be at least 18 years old; valid driver’s license; clean driving record.
• Successful completion of a background investigation and health screening required.
• Willingness to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with inmates in a locked facility.
• Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas.
• Man an armed post (annual firearms certification).
• Escort and transport inmates in state vehicles; monitor visiting areas.
• Conduct counts, searches and security checks; respond to emergencies.
