Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education:

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position at this grade level.

OR

Experience:

• Experience directly related to the various functions of the Mailroom and Receiving and Discharge areas; including admission and release, physical processing, identification, coordination of prisoner transfers, security procedures, bus movement, and final releases.
• Experience supervising large groups of inmates in preparation for bus or airlift operations, including coordinating and executing functions like visual searching, fingerprinting, and photographing.
• Experience in the proper release of inmates who have completed their federal sentences, including proper identification, review of clearances, fines, and all release paperwork.
• Experience coordinating exchanges of custody with federal and non-federal agencies.

Medical Requirements

The Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, has established medical requirements for Correctional Officer positions:

• The duties involve mental and physical exertion, including prolonged walking and standing, restraining prisoners in emergencies, and participating in escape hunts.
• Applicants must be physically capable of performing these duties and free from health issues that pose employment hazards.
• Sound health and physical fitness are required.

Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must detail the actual time spent in activities.
