Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position at this grade level.

OR

Experience

• Experience directly related to the functions of the Mailroom and Receiving and Discharge areas, including admission and release, physical processing, identification, coordination of prisoner transfers, security procedures, bus movement, and final releases.
• Experience supervising large groups of inmates in preparation for bus or airlift operations, including coordinating and executing functions such as visual searching, fingerprinting, and photographing.
• Experience in the proper release of inmates who have completed their federal sentences, including proper identification, review of clearances, fines, and release paperwork.
• Experience coordinating exchanges of custody with federal and non-federal agencies.

Medical Requirements

The Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, has established medical requirements for Correctional Officer positions, which involve mental and physical demands such as prolonged walking and standing, restraining prisoners in emergencies, and participating in escape hunts. Applicants must be physically capable of performing these duties and free from health issues that pose employment hazards.
