  • Provide safe transport of inmates in all custody levels on post convictions relief (PCR), medical appointments, parole, and extradition for all levels of inmates to include Safe-Keepers (SK) and Special Management units (SMU), Security Detention (SD), regional courts, to and from hospitals (male and female).
  • Provide proper use of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment when necessary and ensure all are in working order.

  • Monitor inmates’ movement and relieve officers from post as needed and any other duties of a correctional sergeant duties that may be required.
  • Prepare and submit written documentation and reviews operational and administrative reports when necessary.
  • May be assigned specific duties to ensure cleaning of building, grounds, etc.
  • Proper supervision and control of inmates in the central bus terminal.
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions of the correctional officer II position as required by the COII post orders of a Central Bus Terminal Officer as needed and all other duties assigned by division of security management.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations of inmates/civilians during or after inclement weather as needed.
  • May be placed on a on call list for weekend duties.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Tattoos: Must not be offensive and/or gang related or visibly located on the face or head. Tattoos on the neck will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Cannot have been convicted of a crime with a maximum allowable sentence of one year or more, or a fine of $1,000.
  • Must pass a physical examination administered by SCDC.
  • Must successfully complete the Correctional Officer Basic Certification Course within first (6) six months of placement into the position.
