Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a promoted Correctional Officer Captain at Apalachee Correctional Institution. The incumbent supervises officers, leads security operations, and acts as commander in emergencies while ensuring safety and compliance with procedures.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed basic recruit training for correctional officers and one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers and Sergeants on security posts across shifts.
• Serve as initial Commander during emergencies and plan activities for staff.
• Delegate post assignments, coordinate leave, and ensure attendance reports.
• Supervise searches for contraband and conduct inspections of buildings and grounds.
• Maintain facility security and manage inmate housing and safety procedures.
