Job Details

Location: Department of Correction, West Tennessee State Penitentiary, Lauderdale County.

Salary: $4,267 monthly / $51,204 yearly. Newly hired officers are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus, payable over 18 months.

Requirements: Motor Vehicle Records screening, pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and successful completion of training at the Tennessee Correction Academy.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Willingness to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons
  • At least 18 years old
  • U.S. citizen with good moral character
  • Criminal history disclosure and fingerprinting
  • No felony convictions or dishonorable discharge from armed forces
  • Pass a physical and psychological evaluation
  • Valid motor vehicle license (some positions)
Responsibilities
  • Supervise inmate activities and ensure safety
  • Inspect grounds for contraband and security risks
  • Check in new inmates and manage their accommodations
  • Monitor inmate behavior and provide counseling
  • Attend staff and training meetings
  • Prepare reports and operate security equipment
  • Respond to emergencies and maintain order
