Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States (North Carolina) is seeking a Correctional Officer to ensure safety and supervision of offenders, conduct searches, monitor activity, and maintain counts and housing assignments. This role includes escort duties and supervising inmate work.

Candidates must meet NC standards, pass background checks, drug screenings, and medical/psych evaluations, and have a high school diploma or GED. Training BCOT will be completed during the six weeks.

Job description

• Maintain safety, custody, and supervision of offenders
• Conduct searches of offenders, visitors, cells, and facility areas for contraband
• Monitor offender activity in person and through surveillance systems
• Maintain offender counts, housing assignments, and required records
• Escort offenders within and outside the facility
• Supervise offender work assignments
• Identify and report behavioral, medical, or safety concerns
• Work assigned rotating, fixed, or split shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required
• Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training, including an overnight weekday stay at the training facility

Requirements

• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements under 12 NCAC 09G .0302
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Correctional Officer II requires one year of experience as a Correctional Officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Correctional Officer III requires two years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts
• Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required
• Complete all application fields, including education history, work experience, and applicable certificates and licenses
• Education must be from appropriately accredited institutions
• New hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT)
• Applicants seeking Veterans’ Preference must attach a DD-214 Member-4 Form
• Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must provide the specified NGB or discharge documentation where applicable
