South Dakota Department of Corrections – Behavioral Health is hiring a Mental Health Professional (Therapist/Clinician) in Pierre. This full-time role delivers clinical mental health services to offenders, including evaluations, diagnoses, and interventions.

Ideal candidates hold a master’s degree in a mental health field and are licensure-eligible. A $10,000 hiring incentive and comprehensive benefits are offered; work includes on-call rotations and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a mental health field (counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage & family therapy).
• License eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Psychologist.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional mental health services to offenders, including evaluations, assessments, and interventions.
• Delivers group and individual counseling and crisis intervention; participates in 24-hour on-call rotation.
• Ensures emergency and non-emergency transfers for offenders with acute needs and documents care.
• Provides clinical direction to non-clinical staff and coordinates continuity of care with receiving units.
• Maintains accurate electronic documentation and supports safety and security in the clinical environment.
