Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Certified Medication Aide for a casual, hourly position at the Hughes Unit (Gatesville) with an additional location in Waco, TX. The role supports patient care under correctional managed care, handling medications, hygiene, nourishment, and safe patient environments.

Responsibilities include vital signs, activity assistance, wound care, medication distribution, and compliance entry in the pharmacy system, with required CEUs annually.

Qualifications

• High school or GED equivalent is required.
• Current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit is required.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data: vital signs, height/weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collected specimens.
• Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee per the patient plan of care.
• Provides for patient hygiene; assists with chronic wound care; feeding; and ambulates, positions, and turns patients with altered mobility.
• Maintains safe, comfortable environment; obtains, stores and maintains medications and supplies in the pharmacy.
• Distributes and documents patient medications from filled prescriptions, following Title 40, Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 95.
• Enters medication compliance into the pharmacy computer system.
• Participates in in-service orientation and continuing education; completes 40 hours annually to meet ACA standards.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures for the department.
• Performs related duties as required.
