Baltimore County is seeking a Correctional Maintenance Mechanic II to perform maintenance and repair work on the physical structure and facility systems in county correctional facilities. Under general supervision, duties include plumbing, electrical, mechanical, heating, and air conditioning systems.
Requires four years of building operation experience and a valid Maryland driver’s license, with a background check and drug screening. Hours are 7:00 AM–3:00 PM or 3:00 PM–11:00 PM.
Pay Schedule II, Grade H-21, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

Under general supervision, perform maintenance and repair work to the physical structure of, and/or plumbing, electrical, mechanical, heating, and air conditioning systems and equipment in County correctional facilities.
The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. Four years' experience in building operation and maintenance work.
(Formal training or education related to building operation and maintenance may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and routine repair of building facilities, systems, and equipment, including heating, air conditioning, electrical, and/or plumbing systems and equipment.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of building systems and equipment. Skill in using manual and power tools and equipment required to perform repair and maintenance of building facilities, systems, and equipment. Skill in interpreting building plans and sketches.
Ability to understand and practice safety and security procedures for correctional facilities. Ability to understand and adhere to safety warnings on equipment and appliances. Ability to lead and instruct others.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and staff.
Ability to follow instructions from supervisors to successfully complete the duties assigned.
Knowledge of the County correctional buildings and building systems.
Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing performance of duties, especially safety and security procedures for County correctional facilities.
Skill in operating and performing maintenance and repair to correctional building systems, equipment, and facilities in compliance with established safety and security procedures.
Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Persons appointed to this classification must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and a drug test.

The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor, including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying of heavy objects, and the use of a full range of hand and power tools and equipment. Some duties require travel between work sites and/or exposure to hazardous conditions such as adverse weather, electrical, chemicals, and bio-hazards, such as body fluids and sewage. Work is performed in a fully operational correctional facility with all inherent hazards.
The hours for the Correctional Maintenance Mechanic II position are from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
