Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking an assistant/relief shift supervisor with a strong background in offender custody and correctional supervision. You will lead and coach Correctional Officers, ensure discipline, and supervise critical shift activities within an adult facility or related centers.

Qualifications include 3+ years in custody work, at least 1 year as a Corrections Sergeant or Senior Probation/Parole Assistant with MDC, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility.
• One year must have been as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and instructs lower-level Correctional Officers; develops expectations and monitors performance and work habits; and provides assistance with problems as they arise.
• Directs a major activity such as control center operation or reception/orientation process.
• Patrols living quarters/grounds/buildings to observe offender behaviors and effectiveness of Officers; conducts rounds and oversees counts.
• Investigates offender disturbances and complaints; promotes discipline among offenders.
• Assists in conducting training sessions for staff and adheres to rules and regulations.
• May require a physical examination to determine if the applicant meets the department's physical standards.
• Some positions may require a valid vehicle operator’s license.
