Job summary

The Washington State Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Lieutenant for Clallam Bay Corrections Center. You will direct custody staff, manage movements of incarcerated individuals, and enforce security policies to keep facilities safe.

You will supervise sergeants, coordinate use-of-force responses, and ensure compliance with laws, codes, and post orders while fostering professional development and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of correctional experience in adult, juvenile, law enforcement or related field.
• At least two years supervisory experience (can be gained concurrently).
• OR one year experience as a Correctional Sergeant.
• Successful completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of accredited college level course work.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, recall details, stay calm in emergencies, and use de-escalation skills.
• Must possess a vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Washington and be eligible to use/possess a firearm.

Responsibilities

• Direct, monitor and inspect correctional staff who perform custody work.
• Oversee activities and movements of incarcerated individuals and enforce security regulations.
• Lead Use of Force procedures, incident reporting and chain-of-command communications.
• Supervise correctional sergeants and oversee roster management and security operations.
• Ensure compliance with agency policies and relevant laws and rules.
