The State of Delaware is seeking a Correctional Lieutenant responsible for supervising and maintaining the security of a correctional facility. Summary Statement: This is an advanced supervisory position responsible for supervising and participating in the discipline and security of a secure facility through subordinate Staff Sergeants.
Essential Functions: Maintains control of inmates during escort, keeps accurate headcounts, conducts searches for contraband, operates locking systems, enforces rules, observes inmate activities, ensures proper inmate care, maintains custody during transport, and prepares activity logs. May also train K-9 units and participate in riot control and pursuit of escapees.
Job Requirements: Two years as a Correctional Staff Sergeant or four years as a Correctional Sergeant, with two years of staff supervision, and one year of experience enforcing institutional rules. Valid Driver’s License required.
Additional Information: Applicants must be current permanent employees of the Delaware Department of Correction, with completed probation. Shift differential pay applies for night shifts. Candidates must complete departmental training in security and related areas. Retirement benefits are available for eligible employees.
Conditions of Hire: Must be authorized to work in the U.S., and employment is subject to E-Verify. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
