Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Warden of Custody & Operations, this position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Housing Unit Manager I’s at a medium custody male correctional facility. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the correctional housing unit.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to staff, ensuring proper training and informed performance.
  • Coordinating work schedules, implementing procedures, and ensuring policy compliance.
  • Managing the facility as the highest ranking custody staff or Officer-in-Charge when needed.
  • Ensuring staff training, conduct, and procedures are followed.
  • Maintaining security through inspections and compliance with regulations.
  • Communicating during drills, searches, and emergencies.
  • Responding to emergencies like distress codes, escapes, and transports.
  • Supervising searches for contraband.
  • Investigating security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
  • Preparing reports and evaluating staff performance.
  • Serving on institutional committees as needed.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with benefits, working hours from Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with possible overtime.

Effective January 1, 2025, the salary range is $37,782 - $66,120.

Additional Information

Salary grade: NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply, and salary may be adjusted based on experience and internal equity. The facility, Warren Correctional Institution, houses approximately 725 male offenders and provides offender labor for off-site operations.

Qualifications

Applicants must document experience with report writing, knowledge of case management/supportive counseling/interviewing, and knowledge of prison policies and procedures. Education and experience requirements include:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years of correctional experience, including two at a supervisory level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
