Job summary

Harris Health System seeks a physician to provide high-quality medical care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. You will perform intake assessments, manage urgent care, and treat chronic illnesses while collaborating with advanced practice clinicians and on-site services to ensure continuous care and safety.

The role requires Texas MD/DO licensure, board certification in Family/Internal/Emergency Medicine, and active DEA license.

Qualifications

MD/DO with Texas license and board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
Must remain board certified or obtain certification before current status expires.
Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency in FM/IM/EM.
Active DEA license.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in high-touch public contact environments.
No supervisory responsibilities as described.

Responsibilities

Perform intake health assessments and manage urgent care issues.
Identify and treat chronic care illnesses in jail-based patients.
Collaborate with advanced practice clinicians and on-site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, labs).
Coordinate with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies and Medical Director for patient care decisions.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
