Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Manager, this position is located in the Food Service Department at a multi-custody male correctional facility. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range will be $41,655 - $72,897.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC10(Salary Range:$41,655 - $72,897). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
About Central Prison:
Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.
While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry, or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors, and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or other worship services.

Necessary Special Qualifications:Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
