This Position is Eligible for the Applicant Referral Bonus
This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution with an assignment to the minimum custody facility. Employees in this class are responsible for the supervision of inmates performing large-scale food production and food service operations at a minimum custody prison facility. Work is a dual role of both supervising inmates and providing food production training. Employees supervise inmates in their assigned food preparation and food service work areas, overseeing a variety of activities in food production including cooking, baking, and serving food to the inmate population. Employees train inmates in institutional cooking, baking, and serving, while maintaining sanitation standards in all areas of the kitchen. Responsibilities include maintaining proper food storage and sanitation, ensuring that the inmates supervised are preparing food according to all quality and sanitary regulations. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Correctional Food Service Supervisor and is evaluated daily for the quality of food service and sanitary conditions. Employees must work a varied schedule, return to work during emergencies, and complete CPR, Firearms, and Unarmed Self-Defense training. Successful completion of pre-employment testing is required. Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
