Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Corrections in Pierre is hiring for a full-time Corrections Officer role. You will maintain unit security, supervise officers, and guide inmate activities while enforcing department policies.

Ideal candidates have 2 years of corrections or high-needs client experience, strong communication, and de-escalation skills. Requires readiness for defensive tactics and teamwork in a demanding facility.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Inmate Living Guide, POR policies, and offender programs.
• Ability to communicate and document information clearly and concisely.
• Two years of corrections or hard-to-serve client population experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides work direction to Correctional Officers and maintains unit security.
• Mentors security staff and coordinates floor coverage with the OIC.
• Performs counts, searches, and controlled movement of offenders.
