Job summary

The Illinois Department of Corrections seeks an Electrician at Sheridan Correctional Center to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and installations of electrical systems across the facility. The role requires completing an electrician apprenticeship and four years of journey-level experience, with preference for code experience and leadership duties.

Two shift options are available (6am–2:30pm or 7am–3:30pm); this is a union position with prevailing-rate pay.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
• Completion of an electrician apprenticeship program and four years journey-level experience or eight years journey-level experience.
• Preferred: 5+ years with national/state/local electrical codes and trade tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance inspections on electrical equipment across facility buildings.
• Repair, maintain, and install electrical systems and seat/replace brushes.
• Work with electrical components like switchboards and panels as part of facility operations.
• Follow safety procedures and document work as required.
• Adhere to the facility's master craft/routine lists and work orders.
