Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is seeking an Adult Education Teacher to deliver Adult Basic Education/GED instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts, and Social Studies at Lowell Correctional Institution. The role uses blended instructional methods to support inmate learning and reintegration.

The instructor reports to the Education department. Requires a bachelor’s degree and Florida Educator’s Certificate; non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary certificate within 12

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; eligible to apply for Florida Educator Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects to assist student advancement.
• Supervise inmates in class and maintain attendance records.
• Maintain classroom order and discipline while evaluating progress and administering grades.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress and personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings and assist in budget preparation for the education program.
