Job summary

Harford County Sheriff's Office seeks a dedicated Correctional Deputy assigned to the Harford County Detention Center to maintain security and custody of inmates. Starting hourly pay is 28.71 USD, with 29.58 USD for Maryland-certified applicants, plus a recruitment incentive upon hiring and training completion.

The role offers overtime, holiday pay, shift differentials, and a uniform allowance. Selected candidates must complete a 12-week MPCTC academy and firearms qualification, and meet strict

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and US citizen with 10 years of verifiable US residency.
• High school diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education.
• Valid driver's license with no more than 3 points and a clean record with no DUI convictions.
• Pass entrance level exam with a minimum score of 70%.
• Pass physical agility test.
• Pass comprehensive background investigation and criminal record check; medical exam and drug/alcohol screening; polygraph exam; psychology screening.
• Must provide handwriting sample for review.
• Must appear before and receive a favorable recommendation from Oral Interview Board.
• Visible tattoos allowed if non-offensive; no tattoos on face or head.
• Attend and complete a 12-week MPCTC Entrance Level Correctional Academy and firearms qualification.

Responsibilities

• Immediate supervision, custody, care and control of inmates.
• Respond to emergency situations within the facility.
• Address inmate needs, requests and complaints.
• Gather information and prepare written documentation and agency reports.
• Conduct facility security and inspections; use security devices.
• Attend roll-call and training sessions; maintain uniforms and equipment.
• Perform other related job assignments as required.
