Job summary

CoreCivic in Georgia is seeking a Correctional Counselor to provide care in a secure, institutional setting. You will address inmate issues and ensure services are delivered as designed, while maintaining safety and security within the unit.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of correctional officer experience (2+ years preferred), and a valid driver’s license. You will work with staff to resolve daily living issues and grievances in policy-aligned ways.

Qualifications

• One year of correctional officer experience required; two or more years preferred.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain state corrections credentials as required.
• Valid driver’s license required to perform off-site rounds if applicable.
• Minimum age 18 years.
• High school diploma or GED accepted for entry.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine duties of a Correctional Counselor as a unit team member to resolve daily inmate issues.
• Ensure services and programs are delivered to inmates as designed.
• Maintain a caseload and address daily living issues before they escalate.
• Make daily rounds, observe operations, and ensure unit safety and security.
• Conduct one-on-one meetings with inmates regarding grievances and resolve within policy.

Perform routine duties of a Correctional Counselor is a uniformed, security trained member of the Unit Management Team responsible for resolving daily inmate issues before they become significant matters, incidents or grievances.

• Perform routine duties of a Correctional Counselor is a uniformed, security trained member of the Unit Management Team responsible for resolving daily inmate issues before they become significant matters, incidents or grievances.
• Ensure that services and programs are delivered to inmates assigned to the unit at a time and manner as designed.
• Maintain a caseload of inmates with the primary purpose of resolving daily living issues before they expand into significant incidents.
• Make daily rounds through assigned units talking with staff and inmates, observing operations and interactions between staff and inmates in the unit, ensuring the unit is operating in a safe and secure manner and anticipates situations.
• Conduct one-on-one meetings with inmates regarding grievance or potential grievance matters and resolve the situation within the framework of policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
• One year of correctional officer experience required; two or more years experience preferred.
• Additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
