Job summary

The US Bureau of Prisons/Federal Prison System seeks corrections professionals who ensure a humane and secure environment and contribute to public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Basic requirements include at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences and relevant experience in casework, counseling, or social rehabilitation. Advanced education may earn higher grade levels (GL-07) with graduate study in corrections or related fields.

Qualifications

Courses such as sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, government/political science, psychology, social work, counseling may satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement.
Experience in casework in a correctional or criminal justice setting; counseling with diagnostic or treatment planning skills; social rehabilitation work.

Responsibilities

Assist in case management services.
Assist in collection, verification, and analysis of information for social histories.
Assist in writing correspondence to attorneys, judges, parole offices, and others.
Assist in determining inmate needs and program goals and monitor progress of programs.
