Job Description

This position is located at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC. Mountain View Correctional Institution is a medium custody male facility.

Employees in this role carry a caseload of inmates, providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, addressing inmate questions and concerns, and making recommendations to the classification committee. They also assist in major programs or coordinate specialized programs for inmate rehabilitation, such as work assignments, work release, education, recreation, and transition planning prior to parole or community release.

Position Details

• Full-time (40 hours/week) with State Benefits
• Applicants must pass a background check
• Salary Grade: NC07 (subject to increase based on qualifications and new pay adjustments effective January 1, 2025, with ranges from $35,984 to $62,971)

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must include documented supportive counseling techniques. Other requirements include:

• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field, OR
• High school/GED diploma plus two years of custody experience in NC, OR
• Equivalent training and experience

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
