Description of Work

This position is located in Burke County at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, North Carolina. Work in this class involves administering, scoring, and supervising psychological tests to inmates in a diagnostic/mental health setting. Work also involves counseling with inmates to establish the necessary rapport and attitudes that facilitate valid test results. Work may also include gathering relevant social, criminal, and mental health background information necessary to adequately interpret test results and prepare reports. Employees typically also have an assigned supportive counseling caseload designed to aid inmates’ adjustment to prison environment and their psychological functioning. Employees function as liaison with diagnostic and treatment staff and may serve on various committees relative to treatment.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Bachelor's degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology,

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Note: Positions being recruited specifically for diagnostics will require at least one year administering and/or conducting psychological testing.

This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. TheDivision of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.

DAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
