Description of Work
This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which is a Medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates.
Employees in this class handle the initial interviewing and processing of those persons entering the prison system. Employees are located at a Diagnostic Center in the prison facility where the inmates are processed. Work primarily involves gathering socioeconomic information, education, substance abuse history, explaining terms of the sentence, and providing general orientation to prison processes and procedures. Work also includes recording data, and maintaining all inmate records.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is
NC02. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase
MAY result.
“As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $31,200-$49,340.”

Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. Division of Institutions employs over 19,000 staff, operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30,000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina. Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels, which include minimum, medium, and close.
