Responsibilities

Position Description

This position assists in the overall operation of the Unit Medication Room and distributes clients medications from filled prescriptions. On-job training position for the Correctional Medication Aide (CMA) Training Program. This position is a training position contingent upon the successful completion of the CMA program and attainment of the CMA certification/permit from the licensing authority. During this training period, performs training as assigned, conducts other duties, and within scope of the Trainee position. These duties, within the health care department, may or may not be directly related to this position.

Applicants will be considered for either a Correctional Medication Aide or Correctional Medication Aide Trainee level position based on education, experience, and skills.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Distributes and documents Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) inmates' medications.
  • Ensures drug room security, replaces unit working drug stock and maintains the upkeep of drug room and pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Enters medication compliance in the TDCJ pharmacy computer system and performs all duties within the limits of the Medication Aide Permit and according to the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and TDCJ policy and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent and Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) with current credential from the Texas Department of State Health Services, OR Successful completion of a certified medication aide training course and passage of State exam.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • CPR certification
  • Previous correctional experience
