Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a Corporate Vendor Safety Compliance Specialist to oversee third-party vendor safety and regulatory qualifications across multiple categories.

You will work with Risk Management, Legal, Procurement, Operations and other leaders to ensure vendors meet safety, insurance and regulatory requirements before work begins.

The Corporate Vendor Safety Compliance Specialist supports our vendor safety vetting program under the direct supervision of the Corporate Safety Compliance Manager. The Corporate Vendor Safety Compliance Specialist manages Rumpke's third-party vendor safety and compliance qualification process under the direct supervision of the Corporate Safety Compliance Manager. This role evaluates, qualifies, monitors and maintains compliance records for vendors and service providers whose work may expose the company to safety, regulatory or operational risk.

Responsibilities of Position:

• Oversee safety and compliance vetting for multiple categories of vendors
• Serve as the primary safety compliance resource for internal teams engaging third-party vendors
• Manage safety and compliance qualification for motor carriers utilized by the company's brokerage operations
• Administer safety qualification requirements for contractors and subcontractors performing construction, renovation, remodeling, maintenance, installation, demolition, or other project-related work
• Evaluate contractors based on the hazards and scope of work associated with each project
• Manage the safety and compliance qualification process for temporary staffing agencies providing employees to company locations or operations
• Evaluate staffing agencies based on their ability to provide qualified employees while meeting applicable employment, safety, insurance, and regulatory requirements
• Review new vendors against established safety, regulatory, insurance, and operational requirements
• Maintain consistent qualification criteria across the organization while recognizing the unique risks associated with different vendor categories
• Identify deficiencies, unacceptable risks, missing documentation, or regulatory concerns
• Coordinate with the corporate safety compliance manager and appropriate management member when exceptions or elevated-risk vendors require additional review
• Assign vendors an appropriate qualification status
• Establish documentation requirements and renewal intervals based on vendor type and risk
• Maintain a centralized and accurate vendor safety qualification database
• Establish ongoing monitoring processes to identify changes in vendor performance or compliance status
• Partner with Risk Management, Legal, Procurement, Operations, Construction/Facilities, Brokerage, and other business leaders to ensure vendors meet established company requirements
• Ensure vendors are not permitted to begin work or services before required qualification requirements are satisfied
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Ability to evaluate risk and make sound recommendations
• Ability to build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to foster accountability for safety and compliance requirements
• Must possess strong planning/organizational and time management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers and encourage engagement
• Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications, PowerBI, and Outlook applications a plus
• Strong investigative skills required

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• 3 - 5 years of experience in safety, compliance, risk management, transportation safety, contractor safety, vendor management, or a related field
• Experience interpreting safety and regulatory documentation preferred
• Experience reviewing insurance and compliance documentation preferred
• Bachelor's degree preferred or a combination of education and experience in the industry

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Frequently lifting/carrying a max of 10 lbs
• Occasionally pushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
• Rarely working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Rarely working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Rarely stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Continuously sitting; rarely standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
