Position Summary
The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving packaging solutions for food products that ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with food industry standards. This role will involve material selection, plant qualifications, testing, and collaboration with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to optimize packaging performance throughout the supply chain. The ideal candidate will have expertise in packaging materials, processes, and technologies relevant to either the food manufacturing or packaging material industry.
This position operates under a hybrid work model, requiring onsite presence Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with Wednesday and Friday designated as remote workdays. While this schedule is typical, team or business needs may require additional onsite days.
Corporate Office Location Update: Currently, the Daisy Brand corporate office is located in Dallas, TX at 635 and 75. Anticipated September 2027, we will be moving to the Granite Park business complex in North Plano (intersection of Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn Tollway).
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging Design & Development: Develop innovative packaging solutions for new and existing food products, considering factors such as material performance, cost, regulatory compliance, and sustainability.
- Material Qualifications: Design and execute packaging material qualifications that includes thorough evaluation of the entire supply chain. This includes but not limited to the following: the supplier's ability to produce a consistent product, receiving/warehousing, equipment interaction, shipping, customer handling, consumer interaction, etc.
- Continuous Improvement/Operations Support: Identify and lead continuous improvement projects, in collaboration with plant production teams and material suppliers, to enhance packaging performance, reduce quality defects, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
- Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to resolve packaging-related issues in production, warehousing, distribution, customer handling, and consumer interaction.
- Supplier Management: Collaborate with packaging material suppliers to improve quality and consistency of their material, assist in root cause analysis, source and test new materials, and ensure alignment with product and company requirements as well as plant operations
- Material Selection: Evaluate and recommend appropriate packaging materials that ensure product safety, meet organoleptic expectations, provide contingencies for the company, extend shelf life, and are in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with operations, quality, procurement, and marketing teams to integrate packaging requirements into product development processes.
- Contingency and Cost Optimization: Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to identify contingent options for materials and suppliers, and also cost-effective packaging solutions without compromising quality or safety.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all packaging designs meet food safety regulations, including labeling, food contact safety, and environmental regulations.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Lead efforts to identify and implement eco‑friendly, recyclable, or biodegradable packaging materials and processes that align with the company’s sustainability objectives.

Qualifications And Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-5 years of experience is preferred in packaging engineering, materials science, or related roles, with a focus on food manufacturing.
- Experience with food‑grade packaging materials and shelf‑life extension techniques in terms of processes and materials.
- Dairy manufacturing a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of packaging materials used in the food industry (plastics, laminates, films, corrugated, etc.).
- Understanding of Packaging test methods such as ASTM, ANSI, ISTA.
- Experience with packaging equipment and machinery in a manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in CAD software for packaging design, and TOPS software for performance evaluation is a plus.
- Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on developing practical and cost‑effective solutions.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In‑depth understanding of food packaging standards, including FDA, USDA, and global food safety regulations.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept to implementation, while meeting deadlines.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and detail orientation in material selection, testing, and reporting.
