Daisy Brand is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer Processing in Garland, TX, to provide strategic support for productivity, technical expertise, and quality control through continuous improvement. The role also covers troubleshooting and training for the Garland manufacturing team.

The ideal candidate holds a S./M.S. in a relevant engineering field and 5+ years' dairy industry experience, with strong analytical abilities, leadership, and initiative to drive process improvements.

  • 5+ years of experience in Food & Beverage, preferably with dairy background.

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer Processing provides strategic support to the manufacturing operation in delivering productivity, technical expertise, formulation management and quality control adherence through the application of continuous improvement. This role will also provide processing and dairy troubleshooting and training support to all members of the Garland manufacturing team.

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer Processing provides strategic support to the manufacturing operation in delivering productivity, technical expertise, formulation management and quality control adherence through the application of continuous improvement. This role will also provide processing and dairy troubleshooting and training support to all members of the Garland manufacturing team.

This Job Requires

  • Bending, lifting and twisting.
  • Long periods of walking and standing.
  • Working in a variety of manufacturing conditions including noise requiring hearing protection and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb occasionally.
Key Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement

  • Validate unit operation performance and process change responses to ensure the identity and functionality of product streams.
  • Plan and lead large-scale trials; working with processing and packaging operators to execute trial demands. Prepare post-trial recaps and studies while collaborating with QC and R&D departments.
  • Analyze samples from in-process and finished product streams to support process and product improvements. This includes procurement for trial sampling and studies, validations, and sales/marketing samples when needed.
  • Lead and support metric-based improvements in yield and system capability.

Products and Formulation

  • Document and publish formulation changes surrounding cottage cheese and sour cream products and in-process streams. Publish supporting compositional and textural target range and specification data.
  • Collaborate with R&D, QC, and Technical Services departments in formulation studies and reviews.
  • Calculate and publish expected nutritional declaration shifts that correlate to each proposed formulation change or adjustments in raw material or in-process stream usage.
  • Maintain and enhance product formulation programs.

Technical Support

  • Serve as key technical resource to Garland plant operations, providing guidance and support to Processing, QC, Packaging, Sanitation and Maintenance departments.
  • Design, prepare and execute benchtop trials with the objective to solve for and provide solutions to manufacturing, quality, and dairy science unknowns.
  • Determine key correlations and trends from existing data collected from the LIMS system and daily production logs in order to troubleshoot processes and develop solutions to irregularities.
  • Serve as liaison for the Garland plant’s product gradings. Provide feedback and trends in product performance to the Garland team, Technical Services and R&D.
  • Design prediction calculations for feed science phenomena such as pH changes, nutritional shifts, heat and mass balances.
  • Publish technical reports to raise awareness and highlight findings to plant personnel.

Qualifications And Requirements

Education and Experience

  • S. / M.S. degree in a field of Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Food Engineering or related engineering / science discipline.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in the Food & Beverage industry, preferably with Dairy background

Skills and Competencies

  • Preference of a certification in process capability (Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Strong analytical & applied problem-solving skills.
  • Passion and aptitude as it relates to continuous improvement, statistics and process control.
  • Proven record of working with teams and providing organizational influence and direction.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, embracing the philosophy of ‘no task too small’.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities.
