HEXPOL Compounding Americas is seeking a Corporate Controls Engineer to provide hands-on automation and controls support across all U.S.-based rubber mixing facilities in Akron, Ohio. You will troubleshoot, integrate equipment, and lead automation projects while collaborating with plant teams and project engineers to improve process reliability.

The role requires 3–5 years of controls experience, proficiency with Ignition and Allen-Bradley PLCs, and strong electrical troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in Controls Engineering
• Manufacturing experience preferred (rubber, chemical, or plastics)
• Experience with Ignition data analysis, reporting, and alarm configurations
• Proficient electrical troubleshooting (480V and below)
• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs, structured text, and IT networking basics
• Lean manufacturing experience and strong communication skills

Responsibilities

• Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC programs across platforms
• Integrate production equipment into operations systems
• Program and control VFDs via PLC controls or locally
• Develop electrical and mechanical schematics
• Build and troubleshoot panels and provide remote support as needed
• Assist with project management and coordination with Project Engineers
• Travel up to 30% (potential international travel)
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by Management

This role will play a critical part in keeping operations running efficiently through proactive troubleshooting, equipment integration, and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll collaborate with plant teams, project engineers, and technical staff to support production systems, drive process reliability, and lead automation projects.

Overview

HEXPOL is hiring for a Corporate Controls Engineer to join our technical team and provide hands‑on automation and controls support across all U.S.-based rubber mixing facilities. This role will play a critical part in keeping operations running efficiently through proactive troubleshooting, equipment integration, and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll collaborate with plant teams, project engineers, and technical staff to support production systems, drive process reliability, and lead automation projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC programs on various platforms.
• Integrate production equipment into various supported operations systems.
• Program and control VFD’s via PLC controls and/or locally as needed.
• Develop electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Develop, build and troubleshoot panels
• Support locations remotely on an on-call basis.
• Assist with the management of projects to support the Project Engineers, as needed.
• Travel may be required to fulfill duties, up to 30%; may include international travel.
• Perform any other project/task as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
• Three to five (3-5) years of experience in Controls Engineering required.
• Three to five (3-5) years of experience in manufacturing, (rubber, chemical and/or plastics industry preferred).
• Proven experience with Ignition application platforms for data analysis, reporting, and alarm configurations.
• Demonstrated electrical troubleshooting abilities (480V and below)
• Familiarity with: Allen Bradley PLC’s. Structured text; Ethernet IP/Remote IO and Basic IT Networking troubleshooting.
• Lean manufacturing experience.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer/systems skills – MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook).
• Demonstrated self-starter and works well with minimal on-location direction. Ability to work alone or with others depending on the task but always willing to work in cross‑functional teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills, cooperation, collaboration, and team‑building skills.
• Solid organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage a broad range of responsibilities.
• High degree of concentration, attention to detail, high energy, self‑motivated and self‑reliant.
• Ability to interact well with all personality types in a leadership role.
• Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
