The Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and financial controls for the Barclays Bank Delaware legal entity (under US GAAP) and for the USCB segment (under IFRS). The Corporate Controller is a key member of the Finance executive team, providing leadership and oversight across financial accounting, partnership accounting, tax, regulatory reporting, financial controls, and accounting policy. The Corporate Controller will advise the CFO and the USCB executive team on the accounting implications of various activities, including potential acquisitions or contract negotiations.

Responsibilities include direct responsibility or supervisory oversight over financial accounting, partnership accounting, tax, regulatory reporting, financial control, accounting policy, and cost.

The Corporate Controller, US Consumer Bank, leads a team responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting and financial reporting activities and maintaining a strong internal control environment for Barclays Bank Delaware legal entity and USCB segment.

Purpose of the role

To manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting.

Accountabilities
  1. Management of the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, and other accounting records in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, rules, and regulations.
  2. Support in identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, and report on these financial risks to senior colleagues.
  3. Development and maintenance of a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraudulent misreporting, and ensure the accuracy of financial data, including regular assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls and addressing any weaknesses or gaps.
  4. Development and implementation of up-to-date financial policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective financial practices across the organisation.
  5. Management of the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software applications, including collaboration with IT colleagues to integrate financial systems with other enterprise systems.
  6. Preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports to authorities, and support to other departments in their preparation and review of regulatory reports.
  7. Coordination with external auditors and regulatory authorities in support of audits and examinations.

  1. Manage a business function, providing significant input to strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function, and plan, manage, and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects.
  2. Manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other managers and embedding a performance culture aligned with the company's values. For individual contributors, lead organization-wide projects and act as a deep technical expert and thought leader, coaching less experienced specialists.
  3. Provide expert advice to senior management and committees to influence decisions outside of own function, offering significant input to strategic initiatives.
  4. Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  5. Escalate breaches of policies or procedures appropriately.
  6. Foster and ensure compliance with regulations, maintaining relevant processes for adherence.
  7. Monitor and influence external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups on behalf of Barclays when appropriate.
  8. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/group to achieve overall objectives.
  9. Maintain broad industry and sector knowledge, staying updated on external market developments.
  10. Use advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex or sensitive situations.
  11. Exercise management authority to make significant and strategic decisions within own area.
  12. Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels both internally and externally.
  13. Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions or divisions.
  14. Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
