Job description

This position is fully on-site at our Westbury, NY headquarters.

About the Role

Maxima Apparel is a $120M+ vertically integrated, multi-channel licensed apparel company that has grown 5x in five years and operates across 14 countries. We manufacture and distribute licensed products for the NBA, NFL, MLB, and other major brands through wholesale, e-commerce, marketplace, and dropship channels. Our accounting function is in the midst of a ground-up rebuild — we are not looking for someone to maintain an existing operation. We need a builder who can create processes, systems, and controls where few exist today.

What You Will Build
  • A monthly close process with documented procedures, defined timelines, and accountability — where none exists today.
  • Intercompany reconciliation framework across 14 country entities with standardized elimination entries and transfer pricing documentation.
  • Manufacturing cost accounting infrastructure: standard costing models, BOM/routing validation, purchase price variance analysis, and landed cost calculations that replace the current practice of cost plugs.
  • AP classification, qualification, and cost attribution standards — every cost line revalidated and restandardized, with the India team trained and held to those standards.
  • Management reporting that gives leadership reliable, timely financials for decision‑making across wholesale, e‑commerce, marketplace, and international channels.
  • Governance and internal controls that position the company for PE readiness or bank‑grade financial reviews.
Offshore Team Leadership

A core part of this role is the daily management of our India‑based accounting team (~10 people, IST timezone — 9.5 hours ahead of ET). This is not coordination from a distance; it is hands‑on operational leadership. You will set the daily and weekly cadence, review work product, establish SOPs, run training, manage performance, and ensure output quality. The India team handles the bulk of transactional accounting — your job is to provide the direction, prioritization, and quality control they currently lack. You will also coordinate with small finance teams in Mexico and China and external partners (tax advisors, auditors, customs brokers) across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the general ledger, month‑end close, and consolidated financial reporting (US GAAP) across all entities.
  • Build and enforce close calendar, reconciliation procedures, and journal entry review workflows.
  • Develop standard costing models for manufactured goods; eliminate cost plugs and establish reliable COGS reporting.
  • Manage inventory accounting across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment.
  • Design and implement intercompany transaction flows, reconciliation, and elimination entries across 14 country entities.
  • Oversee full‑cycle AP, AR, cash management, and treasury operations.
  • Track and reconcile GMR royalty obligations across licensed sports league products (NBA, NFL, MLB).
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on indirect tax compliance (sales tax, VAT, GST) across US, Mexico, Canada, UK, EU, Dubai, and Latin America.
  • Support ERP migration to Odoo by embedding accounting and controls requirements into system design.
  • Identify and implement AI and automation opportunities across accounting workflows — invoice processing, cash application, reconciliation, reporting.
  • Prepare for and support annual financial reviews with external auditors; build toward audit‑readiness.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a multi‑entity environment with consolidations under US GAAP.
  • Direct experience with manufacturing cost accounting: standard costing, BOM/routing, inventory valuation (raw materials, WIP, finished goods), landed cost, and purchase price variance.
  • Proven experience managing offshore or distributed accounting teams — setting cadence, building SOPs, training staff, and holding quality standards across time zones.
  • Track record of building accounting processes, controls, or close procedures from scratch — not just optimizing existing ones.
  • Strong hands‑on ERP experience (NetSuite, Odoo, SAP, Intacct, or similar); experience participating in an ERP migration is a plus.
  • Willingness to work at the transaction level to understand problems before designing solutions.
  • Full‑time, on‑site at Westbury, NY headquarters Monday through Friday.
Preferred
  • Experience in apparel, consumer goods, or other inventory‑intensive industries with multi‑channel distribution.
  • International accounting experience — multi‑currency, intercompany, transfer pricing, IFRS familiarity.
  • Exposure to royalty accounting or licensed product revenue structures.
  • Experience with AI/automation tools in accounting (RPA, AI‑driven cash application, LLM‑based workflows).
  • Comfort operating in a high‑growth, founder‑led environment where processes are being built for the first time.
Compensation
  • Base salary: $105,000 – $150,000+, commensurate with experience
  • Annual performance bonus based on mutually agreed milestones

This is not a role for someone who wants to step into a well‑run department. This is a role for someone who wants to build one. If you have created accounting infrastructure from the ground up, managed teams across time zones, and understand manufacturing cost flows at the transaction level, we want to hear from you.
