We are a fast-growing start- up AI company with over 4 million users at Series B. We are looking for a Corporate Controller to expand our accounting department. This is a newly created position due to growth that offers both 100% remote work and an optional onsite workspace at our great San Francisco office!

As Controller, you will be a key leader on the finance team, building a world-class accounting function and scaling our processes and systems. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, you will ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This high-impact, hands-on role involves setting best practices, driving automation, and supporting strategic decision-making in a fast-paced environment. You will design and execute a roadmap that scales the accounting function from startup to mature company. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills paired with excellent operational execution, a strategic mindset, and a track record of success in startup environments.

You have strong accounting fundamentals and are eager to see a startup through rapid growth to IPO. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and scale the accounting function at a high-growth SaaS company, overseeing all reporting, processes, controls, and systems.
  • Build and grow various disciplines within a growing business, including Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, International Accounting, Corporate Accounting and Consolidations, Tax, Treasury, and Risk.
  • Own and optimize the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate internal/external reporting.
  • Oversee general accounting processes and general ledger activities, including review and documentation of journal entries and account reconciliations, financial operations, and tax compliance.
  • Independently manage external audits, leading the completion of our first audit and ongoing compliance.
  • Ensure the accounting function has the appropriate tech stack and internal processes to scale with the business.
  • Implement systems to improve efficiency, shorten close cycles, and support growth with scalable, automated processes.
  • Partner with FP&A and other business owners to provide insight into actual financial results to inform forecasting and planning.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred.
  • 10 years of accounting experience across Big 4 and industry; high-growth startup or tech industry experience preferred.
  • Progressive positions with increasing responsibility and scope, including broad accounting and functional experience.
  • Deep experience shaping accounting policies and procedures and technical knowledge of GAAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and use information technology applications and resources, particularly strong understanding of ERP solutions and financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to convey complex accounting matters to various stakeholders, including senior executives.
