Job summary

Empiric is seeking a Corporate Controller to own the accounting function for a PE-backed industrial services company. The role is on-site in New Orleans, with responsibility for monthly close, GAAP reporting, and cross-location ledger integrity.

The ideal candidate will lead a multi-branch accounting team, manage multi-state tax compliance, and drive ERP improvements to support growth and acquisitions. A CPA and Big 4 exposure are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller role.
• Experience leading multi-function accounting teams (GL, AP, AR, payroll).
• Demonstrated multi-state sales tax compliance experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
• Experience in PE-backed or sponsor-owned environments.
• Proficiency with mid-market ERP platforms (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics).

Responsibilities

PE-Backed Industrial Services Company | On-Site, New Orleans, LA

We're partnering with a high-growth, PE-backed industrial services company to find an experienced Corporate Controller to take ownership of the accounting function. Operating across a multi-location footprint nationwide, the business is in the midst of investing heavily in system and process improvement.

What You'll Be Doing

• Owning the monthly close end-to-end, including journal entries, reconciliations, and intercompany eliminations
• Producing accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements each period for the CFO and PE sponsor
• Maintaining general ledger integrity and chart of accounts discipline across all branch locations

Multi-State Tax Compliance

• Owning sales tax compliance across multiple states and jurisdictions
• Leading the evaluation and implementation of a sales tax automation platform
• Managing nexus determinations, exemption certificates, and tax audits

Internal Controls & Technology Transformation

• Designing and maintaining a robust internal control environment across a multi-branch structure
• Leading AP, AR, and treasury automation initiatives, including vendor selection and adoption
• Evaluating and enhancing the ERP environment to support a multi-location, multi-entity business
• Leading a team across general accounting, AP, AR, and payroll
• Overseeing AP and AR functions, including the transition to automation
• Providing oversight to the Payroll Manager, ensuring accurate and compliant processing across all locations
• Managing daily cash positioning, cash flow forecasting, and treasury system implementation

Audit & M&A Support

• Acting as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
• Supporting financial due diligence and accounting integration for add-on acquisitions
• Assisting the CFO with exit preparation activities as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years as a Controller or Assistant Controller
• Experience managing a multi-function accounting team spanning general accounting, AP, AR, and payroll
• Demonstrated multi-state sales tax compliance experience
• Strong command of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Experience in a PE-backed or sponsor-owned environment
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with mid-market ERP platforms (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics)

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA (active or inactive)
• Public accounting experience (Big 4 or regional firm)
• Experience implementing sales tax automation tools such as Avalara or Vertex
• Experience with AP, AR, or treasury system implementations
• Background in field services, industrial services, or equipment, with familiarity in job costing
