Job summary

Pleasantrees, Michigan’s premier vertically integrated cannabis company, seeks a strategic Corporate Controller to lead accounting and reporting across multiple entities. You will partner with executive leadership to optimize profitability, inventory accounting, and scalable financial processes in a fast-growing multi-entity environment.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership, strong US GAAP knowledge, and hands-on experience with external audits and ERP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
  • Roles including Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, Audit Manager, Senior Accountant, or Public Accounting Manager preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Experience leading month-end and year-end close.
  • Experience with external audits.
  • Tax accounting experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online or ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all corporate accounting operations.
  • Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements per US GAAP.
  • Ensure financial integrity across multiple legal entities.
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee all financial reporting and GAAP compliance.
  • Coordinate audits and tax engagements; manage external CPA relationships.
  • Oversee inventory accounting across cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail.
  • Lead budgeting and FP&A; monitor performance against budget.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff; collaborate cross-functionally.

Lead the Financial Strategy Behind Michigan's Premier Cannabis Company

Pleasantrees is seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Corporate Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions of one of Michigan's fastest-growing vertically integrated cannabis companies. This is more than a traditional Controller position. You'll partner directly with executive leadership to strengthen financial operations, improve profitability, enhance reporting accuracy, optimize inventory accounting, and build scalable financial processes that support continued expansion.

What You'll Do

Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Corporate Controller will oversee all accounting operations while serving as the organization's financial steward.

Financial Leadership
  • Lead all corporate accounting operations
  • Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Ensure financial integrity across multiple legal entities
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Drive process improvement initiatives
Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee all financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits and tax engagements
  • Manage external CPA relationships
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation
  • Maintain audit-ready financial records
Inventory & Cost Accounting
  • Oversee inventory accounting for cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail operations
  • Ensure accurate valuation of inventory
  • Analyze Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
  • Improve inventory reconciliation processes
  • Partner with Operations to improve inventory accuracy
  • Monitor manufacturing costs and production variances
Budgeting & Financial Planning
  • Lead annual budgeting process
  • Develop financial forecasts
  • Monitor financial performance against budget
  • Produce executive dashboards and KPIs
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability and reduce costs
Leadership
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Retail, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership
  • Provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making
