Job description

AEW is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Corporate Controller to join our Corporate Finance team. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Corporate Controller will play a critical role in managing the corporate finance and accounting functions of the firm. This individual will serve as a strategic thought partner to the CFO and drive financial processes, reporting, controls, and operational efficiency across the corporate platform.

The Corporate Controller will oversee the day-to-day operations of the corporate accounting team, manage and mentor staff, and partner closely with senior leadership on key financial initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Partner closely with the CFO to lead and evolve the corporate finance and accounting function.
  • Drive financial process improvements, system enhancements, and best practices across the finance group.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for corporate AEW and its non-US subsidiaries.
  • Prepare and review internal and external financial reporting packages.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the annual financial statement audit process and be primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Co-lead the financial planning process encompassing annual budgeting, periodic re-forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Key financial liaison with AEW’s parent company finance group.
  • Participate in managing applicable treasury administration.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and corporate accounting policies.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop members of the corporate accounting team.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture within the Corporate Finance organization.
Skills/Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of corporate accounting/controllership experience in the asset management/financial services industry preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with deep understanding of GAAP/IFRS (including accounting for multi-currency entities).
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor accounting teams.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner across all levels of the organization.
  • Deep experience with accounting/general ledger systems, reporting tools and FP&A technology (familiarity with MS Great Plains, Oracle Planning, Oracle Smartview/Essbase a plus).
  • Expertise in Excel required (intermediate/advanced knowledge).
  • Maintains strong attention to detail and analytical thinking while maintaining a big-picture view.
