In this role, you will manage all legal matters for our company, ensuring smooth operations across our dealership locations in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws governing automotive sales, financing, advertising, and environmental regulations.
    • Monitor and advise on changes in laws and regulations affecting the automotive industry.
  • Contract Management
    • Draft, review, and negotiate sales agreements, financing contracts, vendor agreements, and service contracts.
    • Assist in negotiations with suppliers, lenders, and partners to secure favorable terms.
  • Employment Law
    • Advise on hiring practices, employee contracts, benefits, and termination procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws, including wage and hour laws, workplace safety, and anti‑discrimination statutes.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution
    • Represent the company in legal disputes with customers, employees, or other businesses.
    • Manage outside counsel when necessary.
    • Engage in mediation or arbitration to settle disputes out of court.
  • Real Estate Transactions
    • Manage legal aspects of acquiring or leasing property for dealership locations.
    • Navigate local zoning laws and obtain necessary permits.
  • Corporate Governance
    • Ensure the company's operations align with corporate statutes and LLC regulations.
    • Advise on issues related to the board of directors and member relations.
  • Intellectual Property Protection
    • Protect the company's brand names, logos, and marketing materials.
    • Handle agreements related to the use of proprietary technologies or software.
  • Consumer Protection Laws
    • Ensure that sales and advertising practices comply with FTC regulations and the Truth in Lending Act.
    • Address legal issues arising from customer complaints or disputes.
  • Financial Services Regulation
    • Comply with regulations related to offering financing options to customers.
    • Ensure accurate reporting and handling of customer credit information.
  • Risk Management
    • Develop internal policies to minimize legal risks.
    • Advise on insurance coverage and manage claims.
  • Data Privacy and Security
    • Ensure compliance with laws related to the handling of personal information.
    • Advise on measures to protect against data breaches and cyber attacks.
Qualifications
  • Active Membership in the Maryland Bar Association: Must have been a member for at least 2 years.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree: From an accredited law school.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of corporate legal experience, preferably in the automotive industry or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Relevant Laws and Regulations: Strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting the automotive industry.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate contracts and legal agreements effectively.
  • Analytical and Problem‑Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Trustworthiness and Confidentiality: High degree of integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Legal Software and Microsoft Office Suite: Familiarity with legal research tools and document management systems.
  • Ability to Commute/Relocate: Ability to reliably commute to Sterling, VA, or plan to relocate before starting work (required).
