Job summary

Plastipak, a growing multinational manufacturing company in the Detroit area, seeks an experienced in-house counsel to join its Corporate Legal Department. The role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, conducting legal research, and advising management on a range of legal and business matters.

You will support governance, regulatory compliance, and special transactional projects, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active member of the State Bar of Michigan or eligibility for immediate admission.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in law firms or in-house legal departments, with commercial transactions experience preferred.
• Proficiency in a foreign language and/or international experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, research, and writing skills.
• Ability to work across multiple functional areas.

Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documents.
• Research and analyze legal matters relating to the business.
• Provide legal advice to management and other departments.

Job description

Plastipak is a growing, multinational manufacturing company headquartered in the greater Detroit area is seeking an experienced attorney for an in-house counsel position within our corporate Legal Department. In this role, you will draft and negotiate a variety of legal documents, conduct research on legal and business matters, provide general legal advice, and support additional projects as directed by the General Counsel and other senior managers.

You Will

• Research and analyze legal matters relating to the business of the Company
  • Legislative & regulatory activity
  • Major commercial and trade-related decisions
  • Industry trends and development
• Draft & negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documents
  • Vendor and customer agreements
  • Credit agreements, equipment leases and other financing documents
  • Corporate governance & global compliance
  • M&A and other transactional projects
• Provide counsel to management and other departments within the company
• Coordinate with outside legal counsel on litigation and/or transactional matters
• Represent the company as needed before court, tribunal, or administrative body
• Other related activities as directed by Legal Department leadership

You Have

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active member of the State Bar of Michigan or another U.S. state bar (or eligibility for immediate admission)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working for a law firm or in-house legal department, preferably with experience on commercial transactions and contracting in a manufacturing context.
• Proficiency in a foreign language and/or international experience are a plus
• Candidate should demonstrate excellent analytic, communication, research, and writing skills
• Also strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and across various functional areas
