Job summary

Oakley, part of EssilorLuxottica, is seeking a Product Engineer to develop new components through development phases and ensure design feasibility for SKU configurations. You will manage decoration, colors, patterns, and apply RCCM to deliver a finished product ready for manufacturing.

Responsibilities include leading development flows, tracking project metrics, coordinating samples with suppliers, and driving continuous improvement using lean principles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years in engineering, product development or project management.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, assembly, automation) and surface treatments.
  • Experience with Lean principles (VSM, SIPOC, Kaizen, Visual Management, RCCM).
  • Good communication and ability to interface with related departments.
  • Ability to work on broad range of assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of data-driven decision making and systems processes.

Responsibilities

  • Create development flows across cross-functional teams.
  • Develop process metrics to ensure project stays on schedule (lead time & release timing).
  • Create project documentation (kickoff forms, drawings, test reports, work instructions, APQP packets).
  • Procure samples from internal/external suppliers to confirm requirements.
  • Own RCCM in development, production, testing and follow-up items in cross-functional meetings.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects and lean system applications as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment by following procedures and rules.
  • Collaborate effectively with others; perform other duties as needed.

Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS

The Product Engineer is responsible for developing new product components through Oakley Development Phases 2, 1, and 0. Provide technical feasibility for requests from the Creative and Product teams during SKU configuration. Create components with new colors, patterns, graphics, and other decoration treatments for internally and externally produced components. Own any issues and attack them with a formal RCCM (Root Cause Counter Measure) approach. Your finish line is a new fully vetted finished product ready for manufacturing.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Create development flows (cross functional processes segmented by development type)
  • Develop process metrics to ensure product project remains on schedule: development step lead time and overall punctuality to release timing
  • Create the project documentation to include, but not limited to, kickoff forms, drawings, test report, work instructions APQP validation packet
  • Responsible for identifying and leading the procurement of samples from internal and external suppliers to confirm aesthetic and functional requirements
  • Ownership of RCCM in development, production, performance testing, and assigned action items at cross functional meetings
  • Leads in Continuous Improvement projects and lean system application as assigned
  • Maintain a safe, organized and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with others
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related Engineering Degree
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering, product development or project management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, assembly, automation) and general surface treatment techniques (painting, plating, pad-printing, etc.)
  • Experience with projects using Lean principles (VSM, SIPOC, Kaizen, Visual Management, RCCM, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general performance testing (environmental, mechanical, optical, etc.)
  • Good communication skills and ability to interface with related departments
  • Ability to work on broad range of assignments with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of systems processes that ensure decisions are data driven
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience with injection molding manufacturing and product development
  • Experience in consumer product, color, and material development
  • Previous consumer hard goods development/manufacturing experience
  • Experience using SAP, 3D Drafting Software, PLM
  • Lean Manufacturing certification – Preferred Green Belt or higher
  • Bilingual – English / Spanish / Italian

Pay Range: 95,321.58 - 131,049.40
