Job summary

County of Chester seeks a Coroner’s Investigator to support the daily operations of the Coroner’s Office, handling investigations, case management, and the issuance of death certificates. This is an essential 24/7 role with shift flexibility and duties across administrative and operational functions.

Responsibilities include scene investigations, report preparation, and coordinating with hospitals, law enforcement, and funeral homes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• ABMDI certification within 18 months of employment.
• Investigator certification through PA Coroner’s Education Board within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Investigate cases and complete written narrative reports, including scene investigations.
• Update case data and electronic files; maintain chain of custody for evidence and records.
• Issue death certificates in EDRS; coordinate with next of kin and notify families.
• Coordinate transportation and cremation of decedents; liaise with funeral homes.
• Assist in emergency operations; testify in criminal and civil proceedings.
