Truist is seeking a transformational payments leader to lead the enterprise Core Payments organization responsible for the bank's ACH and Wire platforms. This highly visible executive role combines operational leadership of mission-critical payment infrastructure with responsibility for driving the long-term modernization of legacy payment capabilities that support a significant portion of the bank's money movement ecosystem.

The successful leader will oversee a team of professionals and contractors, ensuring the stability, performance, resiliency, and risk management of critical payment platforms while simultaneously leading a complex, multi-year transformation of ACH and Wire architecture. This role requires a seasoned operator who can balance day-to-day execution with strategic modernization initiatives that will shape the future of payments at Truist.

Working closely with senior technology, operations, risk, and business stakeholders, this leader will drive organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and knowledge transfer strategies while maintaining a relentless focus on operational excellence. The role demands executive presence, strong stakeholder influence skills, and the ability to lead through organizational change in a highly visible environment.

This is a unique opportunity to tackle one of the most challenging initiatives in large-bank payments technology: reimagining and modernizing ACH and Wire infrastructure while continuing to operate legacy platforms that process and support a substantial portion of enterprise payment activity. Few financial institutions have successfully navigated this transformation at scale, making this a rare opportunity for a leader who thrives on solving complex operational and technology challenges.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Deep expertise in ACH and Wire payments platforms and operations
  • Proven success leading large-scale payments organizations and mission-critical infrastructure
  • Strong track record balancing operational stability with strategic transformation
  • Experience driving large-scale technology, operating model, or organizational change initiatives
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams and leading workforce transitions
  • Experience modernizing legacy payment platforms (PEP+, MTS, or comparable environments preferred)
  • Background across retail and commercial payments ecosystems
Why This Role Matters

This leader will play a critical role in shaping the future of payments at Truist by ensuring operational excellence today while building the architecture, talent strategy, and operating model required for tomorrow's payment ecosystem.

  • Implements and refines technology standards, governance practices, and engineering methods within the job area, driving consistent quality, security, and compliance while adapting approaches to the needs of individual teams.
  • Recommends operational plans and improvement strategies to senior and executive leadership, providing insight from the job area to shape priorities, resourcing decisions, and sequencing of initiatives.
  • Develops and coaches technical leaders and managers in the job area, clarifying expectations, strengthening leadership capabilities, and building a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
  • Owns budget and resource planning for the job area, managing headcount, vendor spend, and investment tradeoffs to achieve targets and support delivery commitments.
  • Leads significant process and tooling improvements across the job area, using data and feedback to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and increase reliability of delivery.
