Job description

Frazer and Jones are looking to add Core Machine Operators to our foundry operations to support the business. This role works independently to support the daily functions for foundry production. Under the direction of the foundry foreman and/or manager, the operator carries out repetitive operations creating and adjusting cores for the specific manufactured goods.

Job Essential Functions:

  1. Interprets and adjusts core machine pressure, temperature, and timer indicators and makes adjustments to specified settings.
  2. Makes minor repairs and adjustments, using simple measuring instruments such as a straight edge, level, measuring tape, rulers, or calipers for core boxes.
  3. Sets up and runs various core machines, changes core boxes, completes core tryouts, fills core trays, and cleans cores.
  4. Operates a forklift to transport patterns and core machine materials throughout the plant.
  5. Throughout the shift, drills, taps, reams, and casts castings.
  6. Evaluates thread and ream inspections during the process.
  7. Disposes of scrap castings at the workstation and performs housekeeping tasks such as cleaning area and core boxes.
  8. Manually feeds materials through punch presses, drilling, or tapping machines.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the foreman and/or manager.

Education:

High school diploma or GED, or the ability to understand fundamental English. Must be able to perform mathematical operations such as multiplication, division, and converting fractions to whole numbers or decimals.

Working Hours and Conditions:

  • 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
  • Training on 1st Shift (Monday – Friday, 6 AM to 2:30 PM) during the initial weeks.
  • 8-hour shift, with possible overtime via extension of shift or additional shifts.
  • This position requires in-person work; remote work is not available.
  • Works in a foundry environment, with potential exposure to varying temperatures and irritants such as dust and sand.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $18.08 - $20.82 per hour.
  • Second shift receives a $0.45 per hour differential.
  • Overtime applies after 8 hours in a day and after 40 hours in a week.
