Job summary

BUILD, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Worker (MW) for the 2nd shift to join our facilities team in Chicago.

The role involves cleaning, room setup and take-down, and light maintenance to provide a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for program participants, staff and the public. The MW reports to the Facilities Manager and requires the ability to work flexible hours, two years of maintenance experience, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Two years of maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and interact professionally with BUILD staff, program participants, community members and guests.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early morning, late evening and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with facilities team to maintain a safe, clean environment.
  • Perform light maintenance and cleaning of interiors, exteriors, and grounds.
  • Pull garbage and maintain clean building and grounds.
  • Set up buildings for programs and rentals.
  • Receive, store, and distribute custodial supplies.
  • Assist with minor repairs under the Facilities Manager's direction.
  • Shovel snow and de-ice walkways; perform landscaping tasks.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication with supervisor.
  • Follow BUILD policies and safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Worker (MW) - 2nd Shift (40 hours, Full-time) Non-Exempt

The Maintenance Worker (MW) works with the facilities team to maintain the facilities and grounds to provide a safe, healthy, and welcoming atmosphere for program participants, staff and the public. Work includes cleaning, room set-up and take-down. The (MW) reports to Facilities Manager (FM).

Responsibilities are but is not limited to:

  • Work positively and professionally with all staff, program participants, community members and guests, to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
  • Do cleaning interior, exterior, and immediate grounds while performing light maintenance, as part of the maintenance team
  • Pull garbage, pick up trash and maintain clean building and grounds
  • Set up building for programs and rentals, as part of the maintenance team, as assigned
  • Do receiving, storing, and distributing custodial supplies, as part of the maintenance team
  • Assist with performing minor building repairs as needed, under the direction of the facilities manager. Work on completing work orders, under the direction of the facilities manager
  • Shovel snow and de-ice walkways. Do landscaping tasks as assigned
  • Maintain effective two-way communication while dealing with concerns in the field with all staff and immediate supervisor
  • Utilize the assigned communication system to always maintain communication
  • Follow the B.U.I.L.D. policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Two years of maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to work on multiple assigned tasks and interact professionally with BUILD staff, program participants, community members and guests
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early morning, late evening and weekend hours
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to continuously walk
  • Frequently position self to clean facilities; occasionally climb ladder, ability to move boxes of supplies weighing up to 50lbs and over with assistance, walk/move on uneven ground
  • Must be able to lift 60lbs
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing 50ibs and climb ladders repeatedly
  • As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status.
